Several of us at University Lutheran feel the need to join together weekly for prayer. On Wednesday, June 12, we began a very informal prayer partnership. We meet in the sanctuary between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. This time was chosen so that people might come straight from work. In the fall when regular programming begins, those who wish to stay for the midweek service and/or choir practice can do so.

At times we all have trouble getting away from work or out of the house, but don’t let that keep you from participating. Just quietly join us as soon as you can, or leave early if necessary. This opportunity will not replace the sharing of prayer concerns during Sunday services or through the telephone prayer chain (Care Network), but will be an addition. Any prayer requests should still be sent to Pastor Gary, who will notify us of the community’s needs each week. Of course, confidentiality will be maintained. We will try to meet every week, but feel free to join us whenever you are able. Please know that you are always welcome, whether you can attend every week or only once in awhile.

This prayer partnership is a new idea, so we plan to stay flexible and allow a comfortable format to take shape over time. If you wish, bring a favorite passage or a written prayer to share. This will not be a prayer “service,” but an opportunity for everyone to participate as they feel comfortable. Our prayers are always heard, whether they are expressed silently or verbally.

The prayer group shared this amazing experience to the congregation at one of the Sunday’s morning forums on December 8, 2002. We were pleased to see many of our members attended the forum and expressed their full support. They also spoken their thoughts about this prayer partnership that were very encouraging for us! This forum demonstrated a wonderful reflection of our members about the prayer group.
