The
Bean Soup Project
2004 Second Year of our Bean Soup Project with the Empe Empty Bowls Project

2003 - Our first and "kick-off" year.
University
Lutheran Church, in conjunction with Desert Palm United Church of Christ,
mixed ingredients and the generations as they assembled over 200 bean soup
kits that were sold at the recent Tempe Empty Bowls event. Each bean soup
package included a dozen varieties of beans, a spice packet and recipe
instructions and sold for $5.00. All proceeds went directly to the Kids
Cafe Program providing
meals to children in our community who would otherwise go without. So far,
the project has brought in $665. The remaining 20+ packages are still available
in the ULC Campus Center. They make great gifts.

The Empty Bowls Event at Tempe Town Lake is an annual reminder
that many people in our community exist on the nutritional equivalent of
a bowl of soup and slice of bread each day. Many of these people are children.
If you purchased a bowl at the Town Lake Event, University Lutheran Church
urges you to display that bowl all year long as a daily reminder that hunger
is not only half way around the world but right here in our back yard.
Remember. Pray. Take action.
